Herb Benefits
Elder Blossoms (Sambucus nigra)
While elderberry gets most of the fame and glory, elder leaves and blossoms are potent and can stand independently. When taken in a warm tea, elder blossoms also help open the capillaries and eliminate excess heat from the body, making it an excellent fever reducer. In addition, these white blossoms are excellent skin detoxifiers.
Sage (Salvia officinalis)
Originating in the Mediterranean, it has a well-documented history of medicinal use for centuries. The father of pharmacognosy, Dioscorides used it in teas for sore throats and hoarseness and on wounds to stop bleeding and ulcers. Chinese medicine is used for colds and joint pain and supports liver and kidney health. Today, it continues to be used to relieve inflammation, promotes wound healing, and improve oral health.
Calendula Flowers (Calendula officinalis)
Known in medieval Europe as the "poor man's saffron," calendula (marigolds) brightens any garden landscape. With its unique immune-stimulating properties, calendula helps to detoxify swollen lymph nodes. As a result, it helps with rashes, wounds, abrasions, eczema, and cold sores, while easing pain from inflammation.
Yarrow - aerial parts (Achillea millefolium)
Herbalist Matthew Wood calls yarrow a “master of fever.” It opens up pores and induces sweating, which cools the body. Yarrow helps eliminate mucus, especially from the sinuses, and because it is anti-inflammatory, it reduces swelling.
